Andy K

Andy K Another beauty from the King himself. Kenny Anderson ruminates on life and death and love, from celebrating a life well lived, (Blue Marbled Elm Trees), followed by Burial Bleak, showing that even for those that live life to the full, you can still be frightened about what happens next. After which, the melancholy 'Dust' confirms what we all know about what's to follow.
Musically, it's a tapestry of synths, samples, loops and traditional instruments, with sublime backing vocals by Hannah Fisher. Favorite track: Blue Marbled Elm Trees.
Etienne Stekelenburg

Etienne Stekelenburg Without a doubt track 2 is my favourite because Martha is on there playing her fiddle. We will never forget Martha I guess. The bright and funny Skoubhie Dubh bandmember Kenny, Eric, Bruce and myself played with back in those buskin' days across Europe.

Alasdair Hosking Just saw I DES being played at the Old Fruitmarket, Glasgow and you were each brilliant and the album is brilliant (Buriel Bleak, Dust, Walter de la Nightmare and Susie Mullen an excellent sequence). And if this were the last King Creosote Album I'd be sad and a bit annoyed. But then no one does grief and difficult relationships quite like King Creosote so...

about

They say long live the king and all, but nothing’s ever set in stone. A quarter of a century since his self-inflicted coronation, and self-released debut solo album, Kenny Anderson - DIY pop voyager, ancestral seaside home restorer, squeezebox lothario, Fife for lifer, diamond miner, hijacker of hearts, and the man also known as King Creosote - has released over 100 records (at a relatively conservative guess), collaborated with the likes of Jon Hopkins,
KT Tunstall, Beta Band’s Lone Pigeon, and had his songs covered and performed by artists including Patti Smith and Simple Minds.
Yet he’s still standing:fallible, doubtful, patched together, bloody-minded and unbowed. He’s got a new LP, despite or
perhaps because of it all. It’s called I DES.

While the record’s kaleidoscopic musical terrain plots vibraphones, accordions, e-bows, samplers, ungulates,
scratched records and wine glass-drones across its landscape, there’s common ground in the wonder of the synthesiser –not to mention Anderson’s singular voice, and his roguish, roving, ever-evolving, gorgeous songs in the key of Fife.
